Residents can have their say on proposed non-motorised transport infrastructure for various neighbourhoods across Cape Town

03 May 2024

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate invites local residents and affected parties to comment on the proposal to upgrade and construct non-motorised transport (NMT) infrastructure in areas such as Bellville, Bishop Lavis, Pinelands, Woodstock, Salt River and Observatory. The opportunity to submit comments is open until Monday, 3 June 2024. Read more below:

The City's Urban Mobility Directorate is rolling out various programmes to provide safer, more accessible non-motorised transport (NMT) spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. Residents are encouraged to have their say on the proposals for their area. The City will be hosting public information days where residents will have the opportunity to learn more about each proposal.

‘Some of the project aspects include the upgrading and maintaining of NMT facilities and ensuring that these are universally accessible; the upgrading and installing of dropped kerbs; and tactile ground surface indicators for the visually impaired and introducing protected cycle lanes where applicable. We urge residents from these areas to join us at these information days next week and to please send us their comments and recommendations. These proposals form part of our plans to increase road safety for pedestrians, cyclists, wheel-chair users, the elderly, people with prams and school children. With the communities' input, we can ensure that the improvements and infrastructure we implement best suits their needs,' said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
